Vijayawada: With Andhra Pradesh taking the lead in contributing 160 gigawatt of renewable energy to the national target of 500 gigawatt, the state govt has initiated another effort to upskill the green workforce to create a talent hub in the sector. A workshop is being held with 250 industry leaders, key development partners, and govt leadership on Wednesday to prepare a roadmap for skilling youth in solar and wind energy technologies.

The workshop — titled ‘Empowering India’s Green Future: Andhra Pradesh as the Talent Hub for Solar and Wind Energy’ — will be attended by IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh, and energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar. The event is being organised by Swaniti Initiative in partnership with Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC).

The workshop aims to chart a roadmap for demand-driven, industry-aligned workforce development. A green skilling taskforce in the private sector will be launched to ensure Andhra’s talent pool is strategically positioned for national and international clean energy deployment. The sessions with experts will also discuss how to integrate tribal youth, women-led self-help groups, and green micro-entrepreneurs into the renewable energy economy. The outcomes of the conference will be fed directly into the upcoming green skill development roadmap for AP.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah recently launched the National Cooperation Policy – 2025 in New Delhi.

This policy aims to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar-se-Samriddhi’ (Cooperation to Prosperity). It focuses on integrating people’s aspirations and resources with the cooperative system to boost the sector’s contribution to India’s GDP and usher in a new phase of inclusive growth.

The policy envisions strong, economically self-reliant cooperatives that provide their members with opportunities to increase their incomes. It highlights the development of a vibrant cooperative ecosystem and its broad expansion as key steps toward this goal.

Among its goals, The National Cooperation Policy will encourage sugar cooperatives to produce ethanol using alternate feedstocks, including maize, to support the Ethanol Blending Programme, to reduce dependence on crude oil imports.

Since the Ministry of Cooperation was formed in 2021, it has introduced several initiatives to strengthen cooperative sugar mills, including:

-Providing relief from additional income tax for paying higher sugarcane prices to farmers up to Fair and Remunerative or State Advised Prices,

-Allowing sugar mills to claim payments made to sugarcane farmers before 2016–17 as expenditure,

-Reducing GST on molasses from 28% to 5%, among other measures.

At the policy unveiling, Amit Shah said a 40-member committee, chaired by former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu, drafted the comprehensive and forward-looking cooperation policy after extensive consultations. The committee held regional workshops, engaged with cooperative leaders, experts, academicians, ministries, and other stakeholders, and collected about 750 suggestions across 17 meetings. Consultations with the Reserve Bank of India and NABARD helped finalize the policy.

Shah described the new Cooperation Policy as a historic step toward realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi.’ He emphasized the government’s target for India to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027 while ensuring inclusive development for its 1.4 billion people. He added that the country’s focus is on collective and equitable growth that involves contributions from all citizens, leading to national progress.

Bhubaneswar: In a resounding demonstration of its commitment to a sustainable future, the State of Odisha has taken a momentous stride in its renewable energy journey.

Under the decisive and futuristic leadership of Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy and E&IT, the 12th meeting of the Single Window Committee (SWC) on July 24, 2025, cleared fresh renewable energy projects totaling 178 MW with an estimated investment of ₹869.8 crore. This significant approval further solidifies Odisha’s position as a frontrunner in India’s clean energy transition.

The approvals, a result of thorough examination of project proposals presented by the Chief Project Manager of the Renewable Energy Nodal Agency (RENA), signal the state’s proactive approach to green investments and ease of doing business in the sector.

Key officials, including the Managing Director of GRIDCO, Directors of GRIDCO and OHPC, and the EIC (Electricity)-cum-PCEI, were present, underscoring the collaborative effort driving this agenda.

Among the newly approved projects are:

  • 69.5 MW Solar Park: To be developed by Prozeal Green Energy Limited at Biramaharajpur in the Subarnapur district.
  • 49.5 MW Solar Project: Cleared for INOX Solar Limited at Telkoi in Keonjhar.
  • 10 MW Solar Project: Granted to Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda.
  • Wind Power Project: To be set up by NLC India Renewables Limited at Papadahandi in Nabarangpur district.

These projects collectively contribute 128.5 MW of solar and 49.5 MW of wind energy capacity, diversifying Odisha’s green energy portfolio.

With these latest additions, the total renewable energy capacity approved by the Single Window Committee has now soared to an impressive 1,844.86 MW, attracting cumulative investment commitments of ₹12,599.79 crore. This remarkable growth is a testament to the State Government’s unwavering focus on creating an enabling environment for clean energy development.

These projects are not merely about increasing capacity; they are integral to Odisha’s broader vision. They align perfectly with the state’s commitment to achieving its Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs), as mandated by central and state regulations, which require a certain percentage of electricity to be sourced from renewable sources. Furthermore, these initiatives are crucial contributions to India’s overarching climate goals, demonstrating Odisha’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.

Beyond environmental benefits, officials highlighted the significant socio-economic impact of these projects. The development of these renewable energy installations is expected to boost local employment and catalyze infrastructure development in the respective approved districts, fostering inclusive growth and prosperity.

Under the visionary leadership of Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, the Energy Department has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to supporting green investments and streamlining project clearances.

This proactive approach, characterized by timely coordination among all stakeholders, is setting a strong precedent for other states, positioning Odisha as a leading example in India’s transition towards a cleaner, greener energy landscape.
